Backlight lifetime is always an issue when choosing a display to work in a difficult environment. Simple precautions can be taken to get sure LEDs, which are the active elements of display backlights, have a predictable and long enough lifetime:

• Use a stable current source design to feed the LEDs
• Always use nominal current value
• Backlight dimming through a PWM on/off switch
• Keep display environment temperature as low as possible
